Hey hey!
The sun is shining, and my creative vibes are flowing, so lets go!!
I have a varied music taste and honestly I'm very open minded to new music, whether that's heavy metal to country folk. Experiencing music festivals and many gigs around the UK, I have been introduced to new bands I wouldn't of thought twice about previously. Box of Light were one of those bands. So in all honesty, as soon as I saw a post about them going on tour, I jumped onto the bandwagon.
Months flew by and the 9th of April was here! After a long day at work, the thought of an evening out at a gig was exciting! Having only an hour to get home, get changed and then catch a train; sitting down watching the world go by on the way up to London was bliss. Jumping off at Chalk Farm (Camden) myself and my buddy were only a short walk from The Barfly! Bright blue and quirky, it was hard to miss. In all honesty walking in, it didn't really look like a gig venue, but that all changed when we went upstairs.
Amy Studt - The Barfly 9/4/15 |
I must admit I was surprised, it seemed like a whole new and different atmosphere. Small bar, a merch stand in the corner and a decent sized stage, I was in my element, so I quickly whipped out my camera, fiddled around with settings and began to snap up photos.
Not many people where around when we first arrived, so that gave us time to chill, have a pint of corona and catch up. Before B.O.L came on, there were two support acts, Pearl Fish and Amy Studt, they were both at opposite sides of the music scale but equally as good.
Amy's set finished and the crowd started to grow, so that meant on thing, it wasn't long til' B.O.L were coming on! Unfortunately, being right down the front, it was a bit of a battle to get to the bar to get another drink, so myself and my friend decided we would stand our ground until the gig was over. The clock hand struck 9:30, and Rupert Holmes came on at full blast, the tropical vibes started flowing and B.O.L were on!
Box of Light - The Barfly (Camden, London UK) |
Being a fan of Helen's work through music and Youtube, I had a bit of a fan girl moment to actually be in the same room as her let alone Box of Light! They opened up with "Say It First" which clearly everyone was excited about as the crowd started to sway and sing. As I was new to some of their music; standing and listening behind the camera lens seemed some what therapeutic (strange I know) but when they cracked out the songs I've heard, I obviously paused my photographer mode and sang along!
Each song, each light change, each smiling face gleaming back at them from the crowd really gave off an awesome atmosphere. The chilled, yet upbeat vibe to their music could give life to any environment. And I love that!!
After an amazing set, incredible vocals and instrumentals, B.O.L had one last song for us. It was their new E.P. titled "Gone Forever".
As it always is, I feel that the last song at a gig shows the band at their best, don't ask me why but I've always believed in it, and I still do as they did just that. They put their all into the last performance and I must say it's definitely made me want to stick around and see what they have left up their sleeves for the future!
Because of this band I have been introduced to new and even some older bands that I haven't heard before, and that is the best thing about music, you take risks in what your comfort zone is and then explore new genres which may be the complete opposite to what you are used to, but in the end you have the possibility of opening so many doors in both music and throughout life.
Thank you Box of Light for such an awesome evening, see you again soon!
P.S. I met Helen! A definate highlight! |
Thanks for reading!
